Our Portfolio
The following collection of our recent project work is an illustration of the breath of work we often undertake.
44 Grove End Road. St. John's Wood, London.
Situated in the heart of St. Johns Wood NW8 and overlooking the famous Abbey Road, the mansion at 44 Grove End Road has an impressive history. Once home to celebrated artists James Tissot and Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, the building had, until recently, fallen into a state of disrepair. A project to restore the building to its original splendour and a return to market has been underway to Bleier Estates since 2003 and is due for completion in 2006.
“Where friends meet hearts warm," reads the inscription over the doorway of 44 Grove End Road, in the fashionable London suburb of St John's Wood. In its heyday, the home in question saw some famous hearts warmed - everyone from the composer Tchaikovsky to Queen Victoria's rather louche heir, Bertie, the Prince of Wales who reigned as Edward VII.
Spread over four floors, relatively few for a property of this size, the ground and first floors are a sprawling 5,000sq ft per floor. There are seven main bedroom suites (with space for en-suite bathrooms and dressing rooms); a three storey-high artist's studio with enormous windows; five large reception rooms (the main one leading to a conservatory); billiard room; security room; staff living quarters; a kitchen; countless storage rooms and a lift. All the main reception rooms are on the ground floor. All up, it's 16,000sqft and, with the garden, measures 0.6 of an acre.
Over the course of three years, many features of 44 Grove End Road would have been repaired, reinstated or recreated as new. Some of the these features, particularly the roof, involved undertaking many months of painstaking work.
So large a project as it is, a website detailing the project has been developed and can be viewed at 44 Grove End Road.
